This is a good book for an advanced German course. However, it lacks English definitions of German words. For example, if you are introduced to a new word, the book provides the definition of that word in German. Thank God for the iPhone Translation app, I suppose. The book is also somewhat dated, focusing on what appeared to be the emergence of the Green Party movement in Germany and Austria. The movement was short lived, however.
There are later editions of this book, which have English translations and an updated political awareness chapter. If you’re just beginning to learn German, this is NOT the book for you. If you’re already feeling confident with your language skills, however, this might be a good match for you if you don’t want to pay the full price of the latest edition.
