This is a great book even though it is ten

years old and slightly outdated. It gives

really good information on everything from

shopping to food. You will surprised on how

different the United States is from Germany.

A book that should improve your travels. Numerous and short descriptions of the German speaking world, but only recommendable for beginners on Germanic cultures.

One characteristic which can be both a defect or virtue in the book is the bias. The author boast a lot about these towns, this is bad because he becomes unable to see big mistakes. For example he despises the American ways of journalist which strive to be objective, he proudly claims that in his countries the journalist all clearly show their tendencies. Objectivity is way to difficult to reach, and journalist and people come across as rather fake when failing in their objectivity search. Yet, we all must keep striving to achieve it. The author’s praising in the opposite behavior are pathetic. At least his biased enthusiasm will help enjoying the experience. The Germans are not famous, anyway, for being as difficult people as their French neighbors.

This book is so trite, mundane and uninteresting that it is hard to believe it is still in print. A complete waste of money

This book is loaded with pertinent details, and the information is presented in a readable, interesting style. The book is well organized so that you can use it to reference particular subjects, like dining, public transportation, the government, etc., or you can read it like a book, chapter by chapter. Very well done. Inside Germany would have been a great title too! I discovered many new things that should have been apparent to someone who has lived in Germany as long as I have.
